Description
Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is the newest cytogenetic research method, during which the presence and localization of specific DNA sequences on chromosomes are detected. The genetic marker of translocation t(2;5)(p23;q35) is formed due to the "fusion" (translocation) of NPM1 and ALK genes in the progenitor cells of hematopoietic tissue. As a result, cells of the lymphoid lineage lose the ability to perceive external stimuli regulating the proliferation process. Analysis of the presence of translocation is a crucial diagnostic procedure for anaplastic large cell lymphoma.
