Description
A compound formed as a result of the gradual attachment of glucose to hemoglobin throughout the entire lifespan of erythrocytes. The level of glycated hemoglobin is an indicator characterizing carbohydrate metabolism over a long period of time, about 120 days (this is the average lifespan of an erythrocyte). The test has important diagnostic and prognostic value in assessing the severity of glycemia in patients with diabetes mellitus, allows for timely determination of the risk of developing complications and adjustment of therapy.
