Description
Interleukin-10 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine, an antagonist to practically all other cytokines mediating inflammation. It possesses apyrogenic (fever-reducing) effects and inhibits cellular immunity reactions, but is capable of stimulating IgE synthesis, playing a role in the development of allergic reactions. It has clinical significance in transplantology, monitoring of renal failure, viral hepatitis, ischemic heart disease, and stroke. Testing interleukin-10 levels allows conclusions to be drawn about the synthetic activity of this cytokine by lymphocytes, as well as to determine the role of interleukin-10 in corresponding cellular immune responses.
