Qualitative microscopic examination of material obtained from nail plates and skin, as well as hair with the hair bulb, for the presence or absence of mycelium/fungal spores causing mycoses (lesions of nails and skin integuments). Identification of the pathogen species is not performed. The test is used to confirm the diagnosis of fungal infection of nail plates and skin.
Recommendations for biomaterial sampling:
Skin scales are scraped (using a scalpel, scissors) from the periphery of the lesion focus and placed in a sterile plastic container.
Suspicious areas of the nail are clipped or cut with a scalpel and placed in a sterile plastic container.
Hair for examination must have the hair bulb (not cut).
