Description
Carbamazepine (Zagretol, Zeptol, Carbadac, Carbapin, Carbasan, Carzepin, Mazepin, Storilat, Timonil, Finzepin; Finlepsin, Epial) is an antiepileptic and psychotropic drug used in the therapy of epilepsy, psychoses, neuralgias, withdrawal syndrome, and diabetes mellitus. It has a fairly wide spectrum of therapeutic effects, is metabolized in the liver, inducing its enzymes and, with regular intake, accelerating its own metabolism. Due to individual characteristics of carbamazepine metabolism in different people, the therapeutic concentration in blood plasma may vary when taking the same dose, as a result of which it is recommended to conduct therapeutic drug monitoring in order to select an adequate individual dosage of the drug. The study is recommended to be carried out every 2-3 months with constant intake, and every 2-3 weeks when selecting or changing the dose.
