Description
A fraction of total cholesterol that transports it to peripheral organs and tissues. It is the most atherogenic component of lipoproteins, which under certain conditions contributes to the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in vessels and the development of cardiovascular system lesions, including ischemic heart disease. The test is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of atherosclerosis.
