Description
Plant-based foods are the source of chromium for humans. Chromium is also found in fish, shrimp, crabs, liver, chicken eggs, and brewer's yeast. It is an activator of a number of enzymes and vitamins, participates in glucose metabolism and heart function regulation, and promotes the elimination of certain toxins and heavy metal salts from the body. Chromium compounds enter the body with food, water, and air. It is excreted from the body mainly through the kidneys and, to a lesser extent, through the lungs, skin, and intestines. Hexavalent chromium compounds are dangerous carcinogens. The test is used to assess the body's chromium status, as well as to diagnose poisoning with this chemical element.
