Description
The main source of cobalt is food products, especially milk, beets, green onions, cabbage, and parsley. Cobalt is a component of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), participates in enzymatic processes, iron metabolism, erythropoiesis, and is necessary for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Inhalation poisoning with cobalt may be accompanied by pulmonary edema, the development of severe allergic reactions, and thrombosis. Chronic poisoning leads to chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, and cobalt cardiopathy. The test is used to diagnose cobalt deficiency in the body, as well as poisoning by this chemical element.
