Comprehensive molecular genetic testing for GIST tumors (c-KIT, PDGFRa)

The presence of a mutation in the c-KIT gene and the presence of a mutation in the PDGFRa gene are predictors of response to imatinib therapy in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (in unresectable tumors, recurrence, or metastatic disease). In addition, the presence of a mutation in the PDGFRa gene is a predictor of response to imatinib therapy in patients with cutaneous melanomas, mucosal melanomas, and acral lentiginous melanomas (stages III (unresectable) and IV).
