Description
A low-molecular-weight nitrogenous compound formed as a result of metabolic processes accompanied by energy release. It is the end product of creatine phosphate breakdown in muscle tissue. Creatinine is excreted from the body by the kidneys. Determination of creatinine content in 24-hour urine is used to assess the level of nitrogen metabolism and the functional state of the kidneys.
