Description
Belongs to low-molecular nitrogenous compounds formed as a result of metabolic processes accompanied by energy release. It is the end product of creatine phosphate breakdown in muscle tissue. The creatinine level in plasma is significant in skeletal muscle diseases and for assessing the severity of catabolic processes in the body. Creatinine is excreted from the body by the kidneys, and since its level in the blood is fairly constant, the test determining the difference in creatinine content in plasma and urine is used to assess the functional state of the kidneys.
