Description
Enzyme fractions found in the highest concentration in cells of the heart, renal cortex, and in smaller amounts in cells of the liver, skeletal muscles, erythrocytes, and cells of certain tumors. Upon damage to myocardial or renal cells, the enzyme enters the blood in large quantities, where its activity can increase several times, sometimes tenfold. Based on these data, the study of LDH 1, 2 activity in plasma is predominantly used for diagnosing myocardial and renal damage. The analysis possesses much higher specificity than total LDH. The activity level, in combination with other indicators, can be used to assess the extent of heart muscle damage.
