Description
The phenomenon of hereditary intolerance to milk sugar (lactose) in adults is associated with the natural process of weaning from milk nutrition with age, characteristic of all animals. For many adults, milk consumption is accompanied by unpleasant consequences such as diarrhea, flatulence, and abdominal bloating. The causes of such manifestations can have various origins: allergy to milk components, disturbance of intestinal microflora, etc. Insufficient activity of lactase - the enzyme necessary for the assimilation of milk sugar - has similar manifestations and, unlike acquired diseases, cannot be eliminated. Therefore, if symptoms of digestive disorders are detected after consuming non-fermented dairy products, it is advisable to conduct a genetic test for lactase activity to avoid attempts at meaningless treatment and to select an appropriate diet. The test will also be useful for children during the period of weaning from milk-enriched food to prevent unexpected intestinal disorders. (The study is not related to a rare genetic disorder – congenital lactase deficiency, which manifests already in infants). The study includes genetic markers: MCM6 (C(-13910)T).
The examination results are issued with the interpretation of a geneticist.
The test is available for ordering from 3 years of age.
