Description
Magnesium is one of the most important trace elements ensuring a large number of enzymatic processes in the body, reactions of synthesis of macroergic compounds, and synthesis of nucleic acids. It participates in the processes of nerve impulse conduction and is an important link in neuromuscular conduction. Most magnesium ions are concentrated inside cells. About 30% of magnesium is excreted in urine. Its secretion is regulated by two main hormones: aldosterone and parathyroidin. Magnesium deficiency in the body can lead to dysfunction of the central nervous system, muscle hypotension, and pathological course of pregnancy. Increased levels are noted in: acute and chronic renal failure, endocrine diseases (hypothyroidism, hypocorticism), uncontrolled diabetes mellitus (rarely).
A decrease is possible in: kidney diseases (chronic glomerulonephritis), impaired intestinal absorption (malabsorption syndrome), acute pancreatitis, hypoparathyroidism, hyperaldosteronism, diabetic acidosis.
Indications for the analysis:
1. Diagnosis of kidney diseases
2. Diagnosis of endocrine diseases
