Description
Malondialdehyde (MDA) is an endogenous aldehyde formed as a result of the metabolism of arachidonic and other polyunsaturated fatty acids. As a result of further biochemical transformations, malondialdehyde undergoes oxidation to carbon dioxide or interacts with phospholipids, amino acids, and nucleic acids. Currently, malondialdehyde is considered a marker of oxidative stress. This test is used for: assessment of oxidative stress in the body; prognosis assessment and monitoring of treatment for coronary heart disease, as well as some other diseases.
