Description
Estrogens are steroid sex hormones that predominate in the female body. In women, estrogen synthesis is carried out by the follicular apparatus of the ovaries. In men, these hormones are produced mainly by the testes (up to 20% of estrogens). The main role of estrogens is to ensure the normal development and functioning of the female reproductive system. In men, estrogens, among which estradiol predominates, participate in the fine regulation of the functions of the prostate and testes, as well as in lipid and mineral metabolism processes. The determination of clinically significant estrogen metabolites and the calculation of their ratios are used to assess the risk of oncopathology development.
* In women of reproductive age with an established menstrual cycle, it is recommended to collect urine during the luteal phase of the cycle. Conducting the study in other phases of the cycle is determined by the attending physician.
