Description
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 2 (MODY-2) is caused by inactivating pathogenic variants in the glucokinase gene (GCK). This disease has a mild course. Clinically, MODY-2 is often asymptomatic, often without a decrease in insulin sensitivity. The onset of the disease occurs at a young age (up to 25 years). Diabetic complications are not characteristic of this MODY subtype. Most patients diagnosed with MODY-2 do not require pharmacological sugar-lowering therapy. Molecular genetic diagnosis is necessary for the correct choice of treatment tactics.
