Description
A glycolytic enzyme normally present in small amounts in nerve tissue cells and erythrocytes. As a tumor marker, it is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of therapy for small cell lung cancer and neuroblastomas. The test sensitivity for the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer is up to 60%, which does not always allow detection of the tumor at early stages. To increase the sensitivity of the methodology, it is recommended to assess the level of CEA or CYFRA-21-1 together with NSE. The test has the highest sensitivity for the diagnosis of neuroblastoma. For early diagnosis of tumor recurrence and monitoring of therapy, it is recommended to evaluate results dynamically at intervals of 2-3 months.
