Description
The First Test Light prenatal test is designed to quantify the representation of specific chromosome loci in order to calculate the risk of fetal aneuploidy for chromosomes 21 (Down syndrome), X, and Y. This method is performed by direct analysis of cell-free fetal DNA in the pregnant woman's blood. The data analysis also accounts for maternal age and gestational age. The test examines fetal-placental cell-free DNA extracted from maternal plasma starting at 10 weeks of gestation. It evaluates the risk of a genetic disorder in the fetus. The study allows for the suggestion of certain disorders and syndromes, and subsequently, with this knowledge, timely treatment can be provided for the newborn. It should be noted, however, that this is a screening test; therefore, a diagnosis cannot be established based on its results. It assesses the probability of chromosomal pathologies but does not allow for a definitive diagnosis, even if a high risk is detected. The result of this test is not a diagnosis, but merely a statistical probability figure. The test is performed starting from the 10th week of pregnancy. The method is suitable for both singleton and twin pregnancies. Prenatal genetic screening assesses the risk of chromosomal abnormalities. If there is a risk of disorders, one can be prepared for a diagnosis and take steps in advance to ensure specialized support and medical care for the child. With modern medical capabilities, a sufficiently high quality of life is possible for many congenital pathologies. Detection of an increased risk of fetal abnormalities is not a diagnosis. False-positive results are possible. The study is not performed in the following cases: - gestational age of less than 10 obstetric weeks at the time of blood collection; - oncological diseases; - organ or bone marrow transplantation, stem cell therapy; - allogeneic blood transfusion within the last year; - therapy with human serum albumin and/or exogenous DNA cells within four weeks; - heparin therapy within 24 hours; - death of one of the fetuses in a multiple pregnancy (less than 8 weeks after the detection of the fetal demise); - pregnancy with more than two fetuses; - twin pregnancy using donor programs (donor egg, surrogacy).
