Description
The level of complement factor C5a in blood plasma can be considered as an integral indicator of complement system activation. The test is used for the diagnosis of atypical hemolytic-uremic syndrome, C3 glomerulopathy, systemic lupus erythematosus, age-related macular degeneration, as well as a group of complement-mediated microangiopathies. All these conditions are accompanied by pronounced complement activation with the production of significant amounts of the C5a complement fragment.
