Pepsinogens I and II with Ratio Calculation

Description

A comprehensive study that includes the determination of the level and ratio of specific proteins of the digestive tract (pepsinogen I and II). It is used to assess the condition of the gastric mucosa.
Pepsinogen exists in two variants: pepsinogen I (PG 1) and pepsinogen II (PG 2). Pepsinogen I is synthesized by the cells of the glands of the stomach body, while pepsinogen II is secreted by the cells of the glands of the body, cardiac and pyloric sections, as well as in the Brunner's glands of the duodenum. Normally, a small amount of pepsinogen I and II is present in the blood. PG 2 is a laboratory indicator of H. Pylori-associated gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as some tumors. The PGI/PGII index (ratio of pepsinogen I and II concentrations) is used for early detection of atrophic gastritis and its complications.
