Description
Most human tumors are characterized by the production of an isomeric form of pyruvate kinase — TM2-pyruvate kinase, which is a metabolic tumor marker. When the tumor is localized in the gastrointestinal tract, it is detected in the stool at the earliest stage and in sufficient quantity. Determination of TM2-pyruvate kinase indicates a switch of cells from the normal type of metabolism to the tumor type. This tumor marker enables early diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors with high sensitivity and specificity. Indications:
1. Early diagnosis of cancer of the colon and rectum, esophagus, and stomach.
2. Diagnosis of metastases or recurrences of gastrointestinal tumors.
