Description
Placental growth factor (PIGF) is a protein of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family. It is produced by the trophoblast and has significant angiogenic potential. Determination of PIGF levels is used in prenatal screening to rule out preeclampsia or to assess the risk of early-onset preeclampsia in the presence of risk factors in combination with other laboratory and diagnostic parameters.
