Description
The BRCA1, BRCA2, ATM, PALB2, and CHEK2 genes are involved in DNA repair. Impairment of DNA repair is one of the key mechanisms of carcinogenesis. Pathogenic variants in these genes lead to the development of hereditary tumor syndromes, one of the most common being hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome. It causes about 5-15% of breast cancer cases and up to 15-20% of ovarian cancer cases.
