Description
Comprehensive quantitative analysis allowing determination of uro- and coproporphyrin levels in urine: uroporphyrin, heptacarboxyporphyrin, hexacarboxyporphyrin, pentacarboxyporphyrin, coproporphyrin I, coproporphyrin III, and total porphyrin. The test is designed for the diagnosis of both congenital and acquired porphyrias. Genetically determined porphyria is based on a disturbance of heme biosynthesis, leading to excessive accumulation of porphyrins and their precursors in the body. Secondary porphyrias arise due to dysfunction of the liver or hematopoietic organs as a result of exposure to heavy metals, intoxication with lead, phosphorus, alcohol, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, in certain malignant tumors and allergic conditions, liver cirrhosis, etc.
