Description
Pertussis is a dangerous infectious disease of the respiratory tract, the most characteristic sign of which is paroxysmal spasmodic cough. Pertussis is very dangerous for children under 2 years of age. Pertussis follows an especially severe course, with significant lethality, in children in the first months of life; apnea attacks, pneumonia, etc., are often observed in infants.
The study consists of detecting and identifying the causative agent of pertussis/parapertussis, which is necessary for diagnosis and confirmation of the clinical diagnosis.
Bacteriological examination is recommended to be carried out in the 1st-2nd week of the disease.
Attention! Material for culture is collected strictly from the posterior pharyngeal wall, avoiding contact with the tongue, cheeks, and teeth.
