Culture for Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) without antibiotic susceptibility testing, quantitative

Description

Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacterium belonging to opportunistic microorganisms. It has significant clinical importance as it can inhabit human mucous membranes and skin asymptomatically for a long time, causing disease only in case of reduced immune status of the organism or a decrease in the amount of normal microflora. Depending on the habitat in the organism, the microorganism can cause various diseases (pathological processes in the upper and lower respiratory tracts, infectious-inflammatory skin diseases, intestinal infections, etc.). Staphylococcus aureus is of great importance in the pathology of newborns and infants, based on which testing for the presence of this microorganism is mandatory for pregnant women. Since hidden S. aureus bacterial carriage is a fairly common phenomenon, food service workers, medical workers, and certain other categories of the population are subject to mandatory examination for the presence of the microorganism in the upper respiratory tract.
The microbiological method allows isolating Staphylococcus aureus on special culture media, thereby proving its presence in the organism and its possible role in the development of pathology, or hidden bacterial carriage.
In this study, a quantitative determination of Staphylococcus aureus is performed.
