Description
The viral envelope protein is represented by the surface antigen (HBsAg), which was formerly called "Australian". Detection of the hepatitis B virus surface antigen in serum indicates the presence of acute or chronic disease. In the acute period, HBsAg is detected in blood serum in the last 1-2 weeks of the incubation period and in the first 2-3 weeks of the period of clinical manifestations, completely disappearing within several months. The time of antigen persistence in the blood depends on the severity and form of the disease. The maximum detection time is about 6 months from the moment of infection.
