Description
A carbohydrate antigen, which is a mucin-like glycoprotein. The level of this antigen is significantly elevated in breast cancer, especially in the presence of metastases and at advanced stages of tumor progression. In cases of recurrence, the rise in CA 15-3 concentration may precede the appearance of clinically apparent symptoms of the disease. For the detection of tumor recurrence in individuals who have undergone radiation therapy and chemotherapy, it is recommended to monitor the tumor marker level over time at intervals of 1-2 months.
