Description
Elevated concentration of this tumor marker is characteristic of gastric, ovarian, lung, and colon cancer. It is not found in adult tissues and therefore has high tumor specificity. The greatest specificity of the test is observed in the diagnosis of gastric carcinoma. The degree of elevation directly depends on the stage of the disease. Determination of CA 72-4 together with CA-125 II is used in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant ovarian neoplasms. The main indications for ordering this test are monitoring of therapy for non-small cell lung cancer, gastric carcinoma, and ovarian cancer.
