Description
A laboratory parameter for the assessment and diagnosis of anemia. Soluble transferrin receptors (sTfR) are peptides that are fragments of the transferrin receptor located on the cell surface and ensuring the transport of iron ions into the cell. These fragments are soluble and are found in the blood. The amount of sTfR is proportional to the amount of transferrin. With a decrease in the concentration of serum iron, the concentration of sTfR increases. Determination of sTfR concentration is an important addition to the existing diagnosis of anemias.
