Risk of early development of breast and ovarian cancer

Description

Breast and ovarian cancer belong to one of the most common groups of oncological diseases. With age, the risk of disease increases sharply and after 50 years reaches 15-20%. The presence of mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes can increase the probability of developing breast cancer by more than 5 times, and ovarian cancer - by 10-28 times. The average age of disease onset decreases to 25-30 years. The lactation period during breastfeeding becomes especially critical. The presence of identified family cases of the disease primarily indicates in favor of the hereditary nature of cancer and requires genetic analysis. BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes participate in the protection of the body from spontaneous DNA damage, so disruption of their function allows mutations to accumulate and leads to the development of oncological diseases and primarily - breast and ovarian cancer. The analysis allows testing for the most common genetic markers (85% among all hereditary forms of breast and ovarian cancer), the presence of which leads to an increased risk of disease. It is important that the analysis can be performed at any age and, if disorders are detected by the indicated markers, consult a doctor in a timely manner before the onset of the disease.

Investigated genetic markers: BRCA1 (185delAG), BRCA1 (4153delA), BRCA1 (5382insC), BRCA2 (6174delT), BRCA1 (3819delGTAAA), BRCA1 (3875delGTCT), BRCA1 (T300G), BRCA1 (2080delA).

The examination results are issued with an interpretation by a geneticist.
