Description
A screening test that detects IgM and IgG class antibodies to lipoprotein-like material formed as a result of damage to epithelial cells. Using this method, antiphospholipid antibodies are detected in 80% of patients with primary syphilis and in almost 100% of patients with secondary and early latent syphilis. The test is not specific; therefore, false-positive results are possible. Antiphospholipid antibodies can be detected not only due to syphilis but also in certain other diseases (autoimmune, infectious).
