Description
Systemic connective tissue diseases (CTD) are a group of diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), systemic sclerosis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic vasculitis, mixed connective tissue disease, and others). Diagnosis of CTD is quite difficult and complex, with laboratory diagnostic methods playing a central role. Screening studies are carried out as the first stage. With a positive screening test result, it is advisable to conduct further examination for CTD. A negative screening test result indicates that the probability of CTD in this patient is very low and this diagnosis is unlikely. This test determines autoantibodies to proteins and other components located in cell nuclei and serves as a marker for systemic connective tissue diseases. A single result is issued – a general one for all antibodies (the test is not intended for the differential diagnosis of CTDs among themselves).
