Somatotropic hormone

Description

A hormone of the anterior pituitary gland, whose main biological effects are stimulation of tissue growth, carbohydrate and protein metabolism, mineral metabolism, and amino acid synthesis. Somatotropin-related diseases include gigantism and dwarfism, which develop in children during the period of active growth. In adults, increased hormone production leads to the development of acromegaly. Measurement of the hormone level in blood is used for the diagnosis of pituitary diseases.

The test is recommended to be taken in the morning hours. To obtain the most informative results, check with your attending physician for the most optimal time to take the test.
