SteatoScreen

Description

SteatoScreen. A screening calculation algorithm for detecting steatosis and fibrosis in liver tissue. The test consists of ten laboratory parameters, based on which an integral indicator of the level of fibrosis and steatosis is calculated. SteatoScreen results allow suspecting the presence of a pathological process at a certain stage. The study result does not indicate the severity of the necroinflammatory process, the stage of fibrosis according to the METAVIR scale, and does not provide an idea of the etiology of the detected pathological changes; therefore, if negative test results are obtained, a more detailed examination using FibroMax or Fibro/ActiTest algorithms is recommended. SteatoScreen is a good alternative to liver biopsy in patients with risk factors for the development of steatosis and fibrosis of liver tissue: with overweight, hypertensive disease, hypertriglyceridemia, metabolic syndrome, hypercholesterolemia, alcoholic and non-alcoholic (toxic) liver damage. The test can be used as a primary analysis for detecting fibrosis and steatosis in patients with chronic viral hepatitis. The calculation algorithm was developed in France and confirmed in more than 40 independent international studies on thousands of patients. The method is approved by the healthcare systems of France, the USA, Canada, the UK, and other countries. The effectiveness of using Fibro/ActiTest as an alternative to liver biopsy has been proven in the vast majority of clinical situations. Indications for prescription: - steatosis - alcoholic steatohepatitis - overweight - diabetes mellitus - hypertensive disease - metabolic syndrome - hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia - chronic hepatitis B - chronic hepatitis C. The analysis has some limitations (therefore, before undergoing the examination, it is recommended to consult a doctor): 1. The test is not performed in patients younger than 18 years and patients with a transplanted liver. 2. The results of the study may be influenced by the following factors (the study has limited application or is not used in their presence): - presence of acute hepatitis caused by virus type A, B, or Epstein-Barr - presence of acute hepatitis of autoimmune nature or drug-induced hepatitis - Gilbert's syndrome with high hyperbilirubinemia - taking protease inhibitors (Indinavir, Atazanavir, Ritonavir) - taking azathioprine and ribavirin - presence of chronic hemolysis (for example, in patients with a prosthetic heart valve) - gallstone disease with acute cholestasis - hepatonecrosis - presence of acute infectious disease of the respiratory system or kidneys - in the presence of lipemia and/or hemolysis in the obtained serum (the study is not performed). 3. The study results should be interpreted with caution if there is an isolated increase/decrease in one of the laboratory parameters (not correlating with the clinical situation), namely: - haptoglobin below 0.12 g/L or above 3.2 g/L - transaminases above 622 IU/L - bilirubin above 30 µmol/L - GGT below 50 IU/L - alpha-2 macroglobulin above 5.0 g/L.
