Description
Determination of the level of immunoglobulin free chains in biological fluids is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of paraproteinemias (multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom's disease, benign monoclonal gammopathy) and systemic amyloidosis. Kappa and lambda chains are structural fragments of immunoglobulins; a large amount of free chains appears in the blood in the presence of a defect in immunoglobulin synthesis, which is observed in the aforementioned diseases.
