Description
Frequent causes of male infertility include disorders related to the structure and quantity of spermatozoa, affecting their motility and fertilization ability. Disorders in a specific region of the Y chromosome, the AZF locus, play an important role in the development of such spermatogenesis disorders as oligozoospermia and azoospermia. Genes included in the AZF locus determine the normal course of spermatogenesis; disturbances in the genetic structure of the AZF locus can seriously disrupt the process of male sex cell formation. This study is especially important for families where reproductive function problems have previously been observed in the male line. The study involves analyzing the structure of the AZF locus of the Y chromosome and helps identify problems in the male line when planning pregnancy and make a decision about the need for in vitro fertilization as quickly as possible. It should be noted that identified disorders will not be transmitted through the female line.
The examination results are provided with an interpretation by a geneticist.
