Description
The level of testosterone in saliva can be used as an optimal marker for diagnosing the androgenic status of the body in men, women, and children. The study is intended for the quantitative measurement of the level of the free testosterone fraction in saliva and is proposed as a method for determining the biologically active hormone. Most of the circulating testosterone in the blood is bound to proteins: about 60% to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and the remaining part (except for 2-3%) is non-covalently bound to albumin. Free testosterone and albumin-bound testosterone possess biological activity. The concentration of testosterone in saliva correlates well with the concentration of the free testosterone fraction in the blood.
