Description
Topiramate (Topiramin, Topamax) is an antiepileptic drug often used for monotherapy of various types of epilepsy. The mechanism of action of the drug involves several therapeutic effects, the main one being the reduction of nerve cell activity. The effect of the drug is dose-dependent; stable plasma concentration is achieved on days 4-8 from the start of regular topiramate intake. Monitoring of the drug concentration in plasma is recommended during the dose adjustment phase, as well as every 2-3 months during continuous intake.
