Description
A blood plasma protein whose function is iron transport. Transferrin is synthesized in the liver; entering the blood, it carries out the transport of iron absorbed in the small intestine and released during the destruction of erythrocytes to the places of its use in synthetic processes. Transferrin saturation with iron is an important metabolic indicator. The test is used primarily for the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia.
* The coefficient of transferrin saturation with iron is calculated when simultaneously submitting (in one order) 06-017 "Serum Iron" + 06-040 "Transferrin".
