Description
Troponin I is a structural protein of the muscle troponin complex involved in the process of muscle contraction. This structural protein is presented in three isomeric forms, two of which are expressed in striated skeletal muscles, and one in the cardiac muscle. The cardiac isoform of troponin I has the greatest diagnostic value, entering the blood upon cardiomyocyte destruction. This occurs, for example, in myocardial infarction; therefore, the determination of the cardiac form of troponin I in blood plasma is a highly specific marker of cardiac muscle damage. An increase in the concentration of troponin I in the blood occurs 4-6 hours after the onset of myocardial infarction, reaches a maximum on the 2nd day, and returns to normal between the 6th and 8th days. This test can be used primarily for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction and other diseases accompanied by damage to the cardiac muscle (myocarditis, heart surgery, heart trauma, unstable angina with the development of microinfarctions, heart transplant rejection, Duchenne-Becker muscular dystrophies).
Indications for prescription:
1. Diagnosis of myocardial infarction;
2. Diagnosis of diseases accompanied by damage to the cardiac muscle (myocarditis, heart surgery, heart trauma, unstable angina with the development of microinfarctions, heart transplant rejection, Duchenne-Becker muscular dystrophies).
