Description
Zinc is one of the most important trace elements that performs a variety of functions in the human body. Such hormones as insulin, corticotropin, and somatotropin are zinc-dependent. There are about 90 enzymes that contain zinc. It participates in the processes of synthesis and maintenance of the structure of nucleic acids, metabolism of proteins and lipids, and functioning of T-cell immunity links. Mechanisms of the body's adaptation to hypoxia are interconnected with the biological effects of zinc, which is capable of increasing the capacity of hemoglobin. It acts as a cytoprotector due to its antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties. In large quantities, zinc can have a toxic effect on the body.
