Description
A study for the detection of oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18, during which the presence of the genetic material (DNA) of the virus and its quantity in a biomaterial sample are determined using the real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method.
Since HPV 16 and 18 carry the highest risk of developing precancerous lesions and cervical cancer compared to other HPV genotypes, the determination of specifically these genotypes provides important information for making an effective decision regarding therapy. HPV genotyping allows detecting women with the highest risk of high-grade cervical neoplasia. The high sensitivity of the analysis allows detecting even the smallest amounts of viral DNA. An important advantage of the analysis lies in the determination of the virus quantity - based on the HPV amount in the body, one can judge the severity of the infection and the nature of its course (whether it is chronic or a temporary response to weakened immunity).
