Description
A semi-quantitative test used to diagnose infection caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 by determining the genetic material (DNA) of the pathogen in the biological material under study. Herpes simplex virus type 1 predominantly affects the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and nasopharynx.
In medical practice, the test is usually prescribed for the diagnosis of infections caused by the virus; differential diagnosis of morphological elements; confirmation of the diagnosis in case of symptoms of herpetic lesions (ulcers, vesicles on mucous membranes) or neonatal herpes; examination of people suffering from diseases that increase the risk of developing complications of herpetic infection (HIV, eczema, severe burns, chemotherapy for oncological diseases, immunosuppressive drugs used in organ transplantation); preventive examination of healthy people; examination of patients in preparation for organ transplantation; preventive examination of healthy people; examination of patients with a burdened transfusion history; during pregnancy planning.
