Description
Vitamin K2 is a fat-soluble vitamin, a form of Vitamin K involved in certain metabolic processes in the body.
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that exists in three structural variants: Vitamin K1 – phylloquinone, K2 – menaquinone, and K3 – menadione. K1 (phylloquinone) is found in plants, K2 (menaquinone) is synthesized by human intestinal microflora and is also found in animal products, K3 (menadione) is a synthetic analogue of Vitamin K1 produced artificially. K1 was discovered much earlier than K2, however, recent studies show that K2 is even more important for the normal functioning of the body, and its deficiency is much more common. The metabolic role of Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) consists of participation in the process of blood clotting and calcium absorption (formation of bone tissue); in coagulation processes, it acts as a stimulator of the biosynthesis of enzymatic structures necessary for the formation of active forms of thrombin and thromboplastin.
