Description
Detection of the causative agent of pertussis (Bordetella pertussis), during which the genetic material (DNA) of the microorganism in the biomaterial is determined using the polymerase chain reaction method. If a pathogen of the genus Bordetella is detected in the analyzed sample with a concentration below the sensitivity limit of the test system, it is impossible to establish its species identification. To confirm the diagnosis of "pertussis infection", in addition to direct methods for detecting the pathogen – determination of the pertussis pathogen DNA by PCR and bacteriological investigation – determination of antibodies (IgA, IgM, and IgG) to Bordetella pertussis in the blood may be recommended.
