Determination of the biologically optimal dose of warfarin

Description

"Warfarin" is the most common drug belonging to indirect anticoagulants, prescribed for long-term use in cases associated with increased blood clotting, as well as in the postoperative period to prevent the formation of blood clots due to surgical intervention. It is especially often prescribed to people who have suffered strokes or myocardial infarction. However, it should be remembered that, for all its advantages, this drug, if the dose is exceeded, can have an extremely negative effect, manifested by internal bleeding. Individual susceptibility to the drug is characteristic of each person, therefore, the prescribed dosage must be selected taking into account individual physiological and genetic characteristics. At the same time, the dosage selection system practiced by doctors using the method of daily monitoring of INR (International Normalized Ratio) often turns out to be ineffective due to the fact that sensitivity to the drug can vary greatly depending on the current diet, lifestyle, and time of year. In such cases, the prescribed dose may turn out to be dangerous or ineffective after a while. Identified permissible dosage limits of "Warfarin" using genetic data will allow selecting the physiological dose of the drug as quickly and safely as possible and timely adjusting the lifestyle to achieve the required INR values without changing the "Warfarin" dose beyond the genetically established permissible norms. The test is performed in accordance with the recommendations of the International Warfarin Pharmacogenetics Consortium (Estimation of the warfarin dose with clinical and pharmacogenetic data. The New England journal of medicine. 2009. International Warfarin Pharmacogenetics Consortium, Klein T E, Altman R B, Eriksson N, Gage B F, Kimmel S E, Lee M-T M, Limdi N A, Page D, Roden D M, Wagner M J, Caldwell M D, Johnson J A.).

Investigated genetic markers: CYP2C9 (C430T), CYP2C9 (A1075C), VKORC1 (G(-1639)A).

The examination results are issued with an interpretation by a geneticist.
