Description
Iron is one of the most important trace elements, participating in many vital processes, such as oxygen transport and redox processes in the cell. Iron is a component of cytochromes, ensuring cellular respiration processes. It plays a very important role in hematopoiesis processes and the functioning of the immune system. The body normally contains about 4-5 grams of iron, with 70% of it being part of hemoglobin. Iron enters the body with food; it is found in large quantities in meat, fish (heme iron), and in many vegetables and fruits (non-heme iron).
