The β3-adrenergic receptor (β3-AR, ADRB3) is an important component of the sympathetic nervous system, which primarily mediates lipolysis (the breakdown of fat cells, or adipocytes) and thermoregulation. Impairment of the ADRB3 gene function is characteristic of the development of such diseases as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, etc.
